Aunt Bette's Baked Beans

Aunt Bette’s Baked Beans: A Family Recipe for More than 150 Years

Pick up a ready-made batch, or try out our recipe:

Pre-soak beans for eight hours. Drain and rinse.

Take:

  • 8 cups of water

  • 1 honey glazed ham bone

  • 2 pounds of Great Northern beans

  • 2 tablespoons of salt

  • 2 tablespoons of pepper


Bring to a boil; let simmer for three hours. Remove bone and excess broth from top of beans, and add the following:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon of honeycup mustard

  • 1/4 cup of vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon of horseradish

  • 1/2 to 1 cup of molasses

  • 2 onions, diced

Todd's Almost-Famous Pea Soup

Pick up a soul-satisfying bowl ready-made or grab a pot and start simmering!


In a large soup kettle, combine:

  • 1 honey glazed ham bone

  • 3 pounds of navy beans (lentils or split peas)

  • 16 cups of water

  • 3 medium onions, diced

  • 2 bay leaves

  • 2 garlic buds (optional)


Bring contents of pot to a rapid boil. Lower the heat, and let simmer for three hours. Season to your particular taste, and grab a spoon!
